William DeSeve

William Jude DeSeve joined his beloved wife and son in heaven on October 26, 2025. On the days leading to and of his passing, he was surrounded by loved ones from near and far. 

William was born on July 7, 1948 to William G. and Lillian M. DeSeve (née Carroll) in the hamlet of West Albany, NY. He graduated from Colonie Central HS in 1966, part of which included study abroad in Paris, France, which he always remembered fondly. He graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh. Soon after, he married his true love, and they went on to raise their four children, one of whom struggled with the hardships of Spina Bifida. Despite the hardships, they carried through and raised a loving family. For most of his career, William was a foreign language teacher and he enjoyed introducing his students the love of languages. He also served in the Naval Reserve for fourteen years, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant. Those around him knew him as an interesting, intelligent, and compassionate person, and he was also known to try to help others when he could; taking in friends of his children who were struggling at home, and even going to the city mission on holidays to offer those down on their luck dinner with his family. He will be missed greatly by all who loved him.

William was predeceased by his brothers; Kevin (Donna, Susan) and Thomas DeSeve (Catherine), his sister, Judith DeSeve Baer (David), his wife, Erna DeSeve (née Atkinson), and his son, William G. DeSeve. 

He is survived by his brothers; John and Joseph DeSeve, and his children; Denise (Michael), Philippe, and Andrew DeSeve.

Services will be held on Friday, October 31st at Newcomer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. Calling hour will be from 11am-12pm, followed by a brief Christian service. 

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Selkirk. In lieu of flowers, please donate to The Community Hospice https://www.communityhospice.org/donate
