SCOTIA-GLENVILLE- William M. (Mickey) Sherry, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. Peter's Hospital. He was born in Albany to the late William and Eleanor Sherry.
William graduated from Nott Terrace High School in Schenectady in 1955. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Korea. Upon returning from Korea, he went to work for the William Sherry Tire Company for 10 years. William also worked as a painting contractor for 20years as well as an Insurance agent for 6 years. William served as the Glenville Town Councilman for 4 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis International for several years.
William is survived by his children, Kimberly (Stephen) Chapman and Robin (Dominick IV) Izzo; his grandchildren, Emery (Nate) McDonald, Dominick (Abby) Izzo V, and Alexander Izzo; his great-grandchildren Jacob, Brookelyn, and Zachary McDonald, and Chloe Izzo; his former wife, Thelma Askew; his sister, Patricia (Calvin) Zarch; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his siblings, Wilma Corcoran, Robert Sherry, James Sherry, and Margaret Westerfeld.
Calling hours will be held from 4pm-7pm on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9am on Friday at St. Kateri Tekakwitha, 1803 Union Street Schenectady, NY, 12309. Interment will follow in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
