William Bert Hendley

Malta - William Bert Hendley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2026 at Albany Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was 80.

Bert was born on November 18, 1945, in Laurinburg, NC, to the late Frances (Denton) Hendley and Pearson Hendley.

Bert was a lifelong guitarist performing in several bands including The Foy Brothers who together won the Northeast Blues Challenge and went on to perform at The Black Diamond on Beale St. in Memphis, TN as semi-finalists in The Blue’s Foundation’s “Best Blues Band in the World” competition. Bert was known for his knowledge of random facts, incredible sense of humour and bad Dad jokes. He brought a smile to the face of everyone who knew him.

Bert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Rose (Hartigan) Hendley, and his brother Eugene Hendley. He is survived by his children Nicole (Eric), Shannon and Scott, his grandchildren Maeve, Liam, Erika, Jessika, Mari, Chloe, Holden, Phoebe, Alonzo, Julia and Sarah, 3 great grandchildren, his sister Carolyn (Robert) Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
