William R. Dollard, Sr.

June 26, 1930 — October 26, 2016

GUILDERLAND-William R. Dollard, Sr., 86, of Guilderland passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. He was the son of the late William Dollard and the late Mary Dollard.

Bill grew up in Albany and attended Vincentian Institute later graduating from Mount St. Mary's College. After graduating, he joined the Navy and served aboard the Destroyer Escort U.S.S. Charles H. Roan. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy he joined the City of Albany Police Department in 1960 and retired in 1986 after rising to the rank of Captain.

He and his late wife, Gertrude enjoyed spending the winters in Palmetto, Florida for 23 years. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoyed playing Pinochle, shuffle board, reading, music, and playing the guitar. Bill lived and breathed baseball at all levels from coaching Babe Ruth Little League to being an avid lifelong Red Sox Fan. He was a member of SPEBSQSA, Elks Lodge 49, VFW #1610, and the AOH in Albany.

Bill is survived by his loving children, Eileen Dollard of E. Greenbush, William Dollard, Jr. (Maria) of Wynantskill, Martin Dollard (Robyn Burke) of E. Greenbush, and Brian T. Dollard (Cynthia) of Guilderland; his grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Daniel "DJ", Matthew, Nicole and Anthony Bernard, Kendall Dollard, Adam and Evan Dollard and Meghan, Kyle and Timothy Dollard; his sister, Mary Kelleher; and his Goddaughter (niece) Mary Gaetano.

In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Gertrude A. Dollard and a sister, Anne Reardon.

Calling hours will be held from 4PM to 7PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Carman Rd. Schenectady. Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie, at a later date.
