Wayne R. Bates

Wayne R. Bates, 78, of Amsterdam NY, quietly passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY. He was born May 16, 1947, in Rome, NY., the son of Kenneth E. Bates Sr., and Cecelia (Tyksinski) Bates. He graduated from Camden Central High School in 1966.

Wayne worked at Harden Furniture for many years. He then moved to Albany, Amsterdam area and worked for WYNIT Distribution before retiring.

Wayne is survived by his partner of 26 years, Greg Wylie of Amsterdam, and good friend Gary Milonovich. Sister Jeana and Ron Myers of Camden. Sisters in law Patricia Bates, Camden, NY and Denise Bates McConnellsville. Also, several nieces and nephews and many, many great and great nieces and nephews, and many friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is predeceased by his brothers Kenneth Jr., and Gerald.

Wayne liked to travel, visiting many places in the US, Canada and Mexico. He enjoyed relaxing, doing word search, watching Steelers football, old westerns and game shows on TV. He was a good friend, like by many.

Family would like to thank the nurses who visited Wayne at home, the nurses at St. Mary’s – Dr. Sheridan, Amanda and Sue who helped Wayne.
