Albany – Vance Albert Mims III, 17, passed away tragically on July 17, 2025. Born on May 1, 2008, in Albany, NY to Vance A. Mims Jr. and Glenda I. Mims.
Vance was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. A gifted athlete, he found passion and purpose on the basketball court and football field, where his natural talent, determination, and team spirit made him a standout player throughout his junior and high school years. Beyond sports, Vance was known for his magnetic personality, sense of humor, and sharp attention to detail. Whether on the basketball court, in the classroom, or among friends and family, Vance carried himself with a quiet confidence and an undeniable charm.
He was a devoted and loving son, a fiercely protective brother, and a loyal friend. His heart was as big as his smile—always willing to support and uplift those around him. If you were lucky enough to be considered family by Vance, you knew you had someone in your corner for life.
Vance was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vance A. Mims Sr., whose legacy he proudly carried. He leaves behind a deeply loving and heartbroken family, including his grandparents Lillian Ouillette, Yolanda I. Alicea, and Timothy Cheshire; his parents, Vance A. Mims Jr. and Glenda I. Mims; and his cherished brothers Myrese Barrett, Antonio Torres, Manuel Mims, and Jonathan Mims. He is also survived by seven uncles, three aunts, and a host of cousins who loved him dearly.
Vance’s untimely passing leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of many. Though his time on Earth was far too short, his memory, spirit, and love will live on in all who were blessed to know him. His legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering loyalty will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
