Verma Claudia Sahai Mayers (Ramsay) was born on May 10, 1936 to the late Frank and Isabella Mayers in Wismar, Linden, British Guiana (now Guyana). She attended grade school and high school, followed by Secretarial school. While in British Guiana, in her early twenties, she was courted by Rudolph Adolphus Ramsay, the son of family friends, Randolph and Mary Ramsay.
She later joined Rudolph, his sister Myrtle, and their mother Mary Ramsay, at a house on Shakespeare Rd, in London, England. She and Rudolph were married in August, 1959. There she also attended Nursing School, where she received her State Registered Nursing degree; thereby fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a nurse. The pair were blessed with the birth of their son, Robert Anthony, in March, 1962.
In 1965, Verma joined her husband Rudolph in Washington DC, where he had been attending Howard University. While living in D.C, she worked at various hospitals in the area. In September, 1966, the couple was again blessed with the birth of their second child, daughter, Saundra Loraine.
In 1970, Rudolph and Verma moved to Menands, NY, after Rudolph was certified to practice dentistry in New York State.
In the 1970s, Verma worked as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), at Memorial Hospital. In the early to mid 1980s, Verma served as an Agency Nurse, whereby she worked at various hospitals throughout the capital region; including, Albany Medical Center, St Peter’s Hospital in Albany, and Samaritan Hospital, in Troy.
In the late 1980s through the early 1990s, Verma switched to Private Duty nursing, specializing in geriatric care. In the late 1990s through the early 2000s, Verma continued her career in geriatric care, by working as an R.N. Supervisor at University Heights, in Albany, NY. Lastly, she worked as an R.N. Supervisor, at Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rensselaer, NY, until her retirement in the mid 2000s.
Verma was predeceased by her husband, Rudolph Ramsay, brothers, Gladston Mayers and Hector Mayers, and her sister, Florence Walker.
Verma Claudia Sahai Ramsay leaves to cherish her memory, her two children, Robert (Janet) Ramsay and Saundra Fox; her two grandsons, Joshua and Justice Ramsay; brothers and sisters, Frank (Marian) Mayers, Winston Mayers, Vivienne Bartrum Mayers, Joslyn Mayers, Vaulda (George) Gomes; and a host of nieces and nephews, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews, in the United States, Canada, England, Guyana, and various other countries.
