Timothy Murphy, 70, of Albany, New York, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on October 23, 1955, to Margaret Pieper, Tim’s greatest joys were the family he built and the friendships he cherished. He loved fiercely and unapologetically.
Tim was the beloved husband and best friend of Christine Murphy. Together they built a life grounded in strong partnership, constant laughter, and unwavering support. Their marriage brought him both joy and steadiness and the family they built together was the center of all he held dear.
Tim was a devoted father to Angela Murphy; Kyle (Edesse) Murphy; Phil (Christina) Parisi; Kevin (Jessica) Parisi; and Jeff (Carolyn) Parisi. He was the son of Margaret Pieper and was predeceased by his brother, Erich Pieper.
Tim took the greatest pride in being an Opa to his grandchildren: Emma, Declan, Lizzie, Connor, Erin, Catherine, PJ, Katie, Ryan, Taylor, Kaylee, Collin, Andrew, Tyler, and Sammy and bonus grandchildren Ava, Sophia, Savannah, Georgia and Liliana. Nothing brought him more happiness than attending their art shows, listening to their stories, cheering from the sidelines, making them laugh, and relishing in the occasional bad habits he helped inspire.
He is also survived by his siblings Terry (Mary) Murphy, Amber (Mike) Glaros, Nancy Valley (Terry Menzel), Sean Murphy, and Kelly Murphy. He treasured time with his nephews Corbett, Reid, and Finn, and will be deeply missed by his sisters-in-law, Cheryl Schliessman and Louise Schliessman and brother-in-law, Larry (Ruth) Schliessman. He also leaves behind his dear friend Curt Miller; his faithful companions Oliver, Luca, and Koda; and many dear cousins, friends, and neighbors who knew and loved his humor, loyalty, and larger-than-life presence.
A close second to his love of family was Tim’s passion for the outdoors, especially mountain biking and skiing. He could often be found riding the trails of the Catskills or Thacher Park in the warmer months with his sons and friends, or skiing at Whiteface during the winter with his brother. In fact, despite his doctor’s orders, he returned to the slopes just four weeks after major cardiac surgery—he was never one to sit still for long.
Tim began his career in construction, where he developed not only a strong work ethic but also great pride in hard work and perseverance. He later worked for FEMA, which allowed him to travel, explore new cities, and form lifelong friendships with his colleagues. Tim had an immense appreciation for music—The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, David Bowie, and Lou Reed were among his favorites. He lived life on his own terms, with a soundtrack to match, often reminding those around him, “If it’s too loud, you’re too old.”
Tim will be remembered for his quick wit, stubborn streak, and deep love for his family. He made any room louder, funnier, and better simply by being in it. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and his absence will be felt by all who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to guide us forward—as he would say, “same as it ever was.”
Visitation will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie , NY 12205, on May 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a ceremony immediately following at the funeral home. In the meantime, his family asks those who loved him to honor his memory by turning the music up a little louder, spending time outdoors, and never missing a chance to be with the ones you love.
