Thomas J. "Smez" Smero

GREENFIELD CENTER- Thomas J. "Smez" Smero, 80, passed away at home on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Thomas was born in 1946, in Saratoga, New York to the late Alexander Joseph and Helen Stanislowsky Smero.

He was educated throughout the Saratoga school system, eventually graduating in 1965 from Saratoga High School.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army serving in Vietnam until being honorably discharged in 1968.

He was employed by Niagara Mohawk, retiring after 31 years.

Tom liked the simple life. He enjoyed the country and especially loved spending time at his favorite spot The Creek.

He always made time to share a "beverage" or two with friends at his outdoor "pavilion." Anyone that knew Tom would most likely have a story to tell about him.

Thomas is survived by his partner of 39 years, Susan Boni. His daughter, Tracy Lee Wilson (Brett) and his son, Jeffrey T. Smero. Granddaughters, Olivia and Sydney Wilson and Shiloh Smero. His sister, Margaret "Peggy" Demske and his nephew, Nicholas Demske. As well as numerous cousins.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for procession at 11am at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady RD., Watervliet, NY 12189. A graveside service will be held at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY12871 to begin at 12pm.
