Thomas E. Murphy, Sr., 89, of Colonie, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 with his loving family by his side.
Born in Albany on January 14, 1929, Thomas was the son of the late William and Anna Mae (Murdick) Murphy. He was the devoted husband of Marion (Coster) Murphy, together they were married 67 years. Thomas was a World War II Navy veteran, receiving an honorable discharge in 1947. For 32 years Thomas was employed as an equipment operator for Niagara Mohawk, where he retired from in 1985. He held memberships with the Colonie Elks and the I.B.E.W. Local 97 Union. Thomas loved boating, living by the water and enjoyed the days spent on the camp up in Saratoga. He was an avid Yankees Fan, and also loved NASCAR! Thomas and Marion enjoyed wintering in Davie, Florida for the last 30 years of retirement.
Beloved husband of Marion Murphy, loving father of Thomas E. Murphy, Jr., Patricia A. Van Alstyne, Colleen N. Murphy and the late Wendy M. Murphy. Cherished grandfather of several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as one great-great grandchild. Dearest brother of William Murphy and the late John Murphy. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, February 26th.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27th at Gerald B.H. Solomon - Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Veteran's Miracle Center of Albany, 10 Interstate Ave, Albany, NY 12205.
