On October 18, 2025 Tom aka "Pop" entered into eternal rest after a brave and hard-fought battle against ALS. He was born on August 15,1949 to his proud parents Dolores (Mulholland) Malloy and Donald T. Malloy at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, NY.
He grew up in Scotia, N.Y where he attended St. Joseph's school and graduated from Scotia - Glenville High School. Tom went on to Cobleskill Community College, transferred to Adirondack Community College, eventually settling into the first integrated class at the College of Saint Rose. There he studied Theatre and English. Tom was involved in many productions during his time at St. Rose. He had such a love of theatre and music. After graduating Tom joined a theatre troupe and performed from the Adirondacks to the Catskills, to New York City. He held various positions until the birth of his son Zachary. He entered into a position at OD Heck in the newly established Autism Unit, leaving behind a position of Substitute Teacher in the Capital District. In the Autism Unit he thrived. He had such a love for "his guys" Tom worked in Autism for nearly 40 years. At the end of his career, he met an Autistic gentlemen named Keith. He became a weekly volunteer and took Keith to weekly movies and every diner in the capital district. They even took a ride one summer on the Minne Ha Ha Cruise Ship. For Christmas one year he created a book for Keith's siblings. The book was all the trips they took and all of the photos of them together. Tom also took guardianship of a homeless man who resided in OD Heck, until the end of his friend's death. Tom was the very best Dad and Papa Bear. He gave counsel whenever needed and unconditional love to his children and his grandchildren.
Tom gave us yearly trips to his beloved Old Orchard Beach where his children and grandchildren would have the time of their lives. Tom lived for his grandchildren. He played nonstop with them regularly. He traveled with them on too many adventures to count. He was always involved with their studies, sports, and dance. Tom also helped create a Dog Park group at Central Park in Schenectady. He named it "The Intrepids" because rain or shine, sleet or snow, they showed up with their fur babies. His love for his Katie Girl and Beau was beyond measure,
Tom leaves behind his adoring Wife Colleen (Spofford) Malloy. His children Zachary, Rory Robert, Megan (Robert) Buchalski (Bret) and is now joined with his deceased son Kenny Maloney. He also leaves behind sister Maureen (Rick) Malloy, brother Dennis (Kevin) Malloy and his nephew Jesse Wyner (Meghan). His brothers and sisters in law Mary (Jim) Mazik, Kelley (Dave) Brockman, Scott Spofford and Tim (Barbara) Spofford, will all miss him dearly.Tom's grandchildren, the greatest light in his life Noah Rodriguez, Leo Rodriguez, and Liliana Buchalski, will forever miss him.
