Thomas V. Koleci

Thomas V. Koleci, 88, of Albany and Cleverdale, New York, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Stella Koleci; his son, Vasil Koleci; his daughters, Dr. Carolann Koleci and Dr. Nicole Rosa (Todd); and his brother, Lewis Koleci. He is also survived by his three cherished grandchildren, John, Sophia, and Alexis Quackenbush, as well as several loving nieces, nephews, and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Proxethea and Vasil Koleci.

Thomas possessed a deep, lifelong love of learning. He attended Hudson Valley Technical Institute before beginning a distinguished 37-year career as a mechanical and plumbing engineer with the New York State Office of General Services. Throughout his career, he designed plumbing and steam systems for many major New York State buildings and facilities. He found great satisfaction in tackling challenging engineering projects and seeing them through to completion.

Above all, Thomas cherished his family. He loved spending weekends boating on Lake George, camping, and enjoying the beauty of the Adirondacks with those he loved most. He was a founding member of the Harris Bay Yacht Club following its transition from the Yardarm, and he treasured the friendships and memories made there over the years.

A devoted member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, Thomas's faith was the cornerstone of his life. His commitment to his church and community reflected the kindness, humility, and generosity with which he lived each day.

Music brought him immense joy throughout his life. An accomplished trumpet player, he performed with a local dance band and instilled a love of music in his family. He never missed an opportunity to attend his children's and grandchildren's band concerts, always cheering them on with pride.

Thomas had an inquisitive mind and a passion for science, engineering, and lifelong learning. He loved home improvement and automotive projects and was known by family and friends as someone who could fix almost anything. One of his greatest pleasures was passing along his knowledge, practical skills, and love of engineering to his son.

He also made Christmas a magical time for his family, creating traditions and memories that will be treasured for generations. With his sharp intellect, he delighted in quickly completing the Sunday crossword puzzle, often finishing it before anyone else had a chance.

Thomas will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, brilliant mind, steadfast faith, musical spirit, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the values he instilled in those who knew and loved him.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funeral Home on Friday August 7th from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Saturday August 8th at 10:00 AM at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Rd. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
