Teresa Avellino

Teresa Avellino, 95, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026 at the Teresian House in Albany, NY. Teresa was born in Adrano, Sicily, but has lived in Albany since she was a child.

She was employed by several New York State agencies and retired after 25 years. Teresa enjoyed traveling. Her many trips included traveling abroad to Sicily, Italy, England, Switzerland and the United States. Teresa loved music, including playing the organ, sang in the choir as a communicant of Saint Margart Mary’s Church in Albany and later in the church choir at Avila Retirement Community.

She was a daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt. Teresa is predeceased by her loving parents, Agatina and Vincenzo Avellino, and sister Antonette (Barbaro) Cangemi.

She is survived by her nieces, Carmelinda (Stephen) Colfer, and Mary (Andrew) Rinaldi. She also leaves behind four great nieces and nephews, Sean (Jane) Colfer, Evan (Jen) Colfer, Caitlin Cucchiella, Nicholas (Ann Marie) Rinaldi and eight great-great nieces and nephews, Gavin, Grace, Everly, Camden, Creighton, Bryson, Hugh and Walter.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Teresian House for the excellent professional care given to Teresa during her stay over the last 9 years.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet, NY 12189 on Thursday September 24, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026 at All Saints Catholic Church, 16 Homestead St, Albany, NY 12203. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Memorial Park in Schenectady,
