Sylvia E. Sheldon

Chatham- Sylvia E. Sheldon, 88, peacefully passed away on February 9, 2017 at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home, where she resided for the past 9 years.

Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts . on September 21, 1928, Sylvia was the dedicated daughter of the late Anna E. Hill-Benson and the late Richard Benson, Sr. as well as devoted wife of the late Herbert L. Sheldon, Sr.

Raising her children in Chatham NY, Sylvia was an active member of the church throughout her life who truly loved the Lord. Known for her spunky personality, Sylvia enjoyed spending time with family, caring for others, the outdoors, casino games and crosswords puzzles.

She is predeceased by three daughters, Sandra A. & Donna M. Sheldon as well as Isabelle N. Sheldon-Windom. Also to predecease her are two grandchildren, Corey J. Sheldon as well as two great-grandchildren, Shyaire L. Sheldon, and Jalissa M. Nesmith .

Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Herbert (Doreen) L. Sheldon, Jr., Arthur R. Sheldon & Anthony M. Sheldon as well as daughters, Gwendolyn E. Sheldon, Lorraine Y. Sheldon-Blount, Anita L. Sheldon-Griffin & Melissa (Carlos) A. Sheldon-Maisonet; also a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren as well as many family and friends.

Known and acknowledged by most as "Momma", this beautiful lady will be truly missed.

Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm on Thursday, February 16 at Capital Church, 31 Vly Rd., Colonie. A funeral service will follow at 12pm.
