Sylvia M. Denegar, 70, of Schenectady, passed away peacefully on Easter morning, April 5, 2026, at St. Peter’s Hospice.

Born in Surrey, England, Sylvia was the daughter of the late Alan and Elsie Brisck. She built a life centered on family, hard work, and simple joys. Sylvia retired in 2018 from the New York State Higher Education Services, where she worked in collections.

A dedicated and caring provider, Sylvia always made sure her family was well taken care of. Even in retirement, she stayed active through part-time work at several local businesses, including Taco Bell, Mobil, Cumberland Farms, BJ’s, and Hannaford.

Sylvia found great happiness in life’s little pleasures. She loved shopping and had a remarkable knack for finding a good bargain. She enjoyed flowers and plants—though despite her best efforts, they rarely seemed to return the favor. She also cherished trips to Vermont, where the scenery reminded her of her homeland in England, often taking weekend drives with her family. A favorite pastime was dining out, especially enjoying fish and chips at the Blue Ribbon diner.

Sylvia’s faith was very important to her. She loved Jesus deeply and passed with the comfort and assurance that she would be reunited with Him and her beloved parents.

She is survived by her husband, Ed; her children, Jamie, Chris (Jessica), Mahlon, and Amanda; her sister, Sandra; and her cherished grandchildren, Delilah, Lucas, Dillon, and Averie.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sylvia’s life on May 9, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at the VFW Post 8692, 140 Vfw Rd. Albany, NY 12205.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at St. Peter’s Hospice for the compassionate care and support provided to Sylvia during her final weeks.
