Sylvia Brown

Sylvia Rose Brown, 77, wife of Derrick Brown of Joe Hut District Trelawny Jamaica West Indies, transitioned from this world on May 11, 2025, at the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia New York.

Sylvia Rose Brown was born October 8, 1947, in Campbells Land in the parish of Trelawny Jamaica West Indies. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Stewart and Viola Brown. She was educated in Jamaica and was a Housewife and a farmer, Sylvia gave many years of her life to the Banana Plantation industry and was a businesswoman where she purchased and sold food items in the Falmouth market for over two decades. In November of 2011 Sylvia immigrated to the United States where she worked as a childcare worker giving her service to infants and toddlers until the pandemic hits in 2020.

Sylvia was always active in her church throughout her lifetime, worshiping, and sometimes volunteering to the less fortunate. She never missed a chance to pray for others.

Sylvia is survived by her husband Derrick, daughters, Fedricka (Alanzo) and Maud (Ray); sons Milton, Neville, and Seymour (Semone), 16 grandchildren, Nicola, Aundre, Aundreen, Tavia, Antoinette, Tyler, Cavel, Natasha O’rando, Sophia, Rickardo, Norris, Ezra, Shavion, Diavion, and Seymour, Jr.; 16 great-grandchildren, Nikera, D’Aundre, D’Aundra, Nathan, Narissa, Nekirah, Olivia, Jaysha, Jaida, Jace, Emma, Asheem, Victoria, Asanda, Denario, Ackeef; brother, Barrington; sisters, Jennifer, Sisilyn, Peggy and Maxine; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral ceremony to immediately follow at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment to follow the services at Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Colonie.
