Albany- Stella Mae Anthony-Lomax, 82, devoted mother, made her transition on October 27, 2016 after the challenge of Alzheimer's disease. Born in Birmingham, AL on April 23, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Lee and Pauline Anthony. She relocated in the 1960's to Albany, NY where she began working as a gift wrapper at Pearl Grant Richman's in Stuyvesant Plaza. She also worked at Flah's Department Store. From there, Stella attended junior college and earned an associate's degree. She then worked for the State Regent's External Degrees program which became Excelsior College for more than 30 years until her retirement. Stella strongly believed in education and worked at times up to as many as three jobs to put her children through Catholic School and college.
Stella was an excellent cook and loved entertaining, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed travelling with her family and was always friendly and outgoing to anyone she met along the way. Most importantly, Stella was well known for her exquisite fashion sense and was rarely seen without her high heels.
She is survived by her son Steve Anthony and her daughter Andrea Anthony; her granddaughter Jesika Anthony; her brother Michael Anthony and several cousins.
In addition to her parents, Stella was predeceased by her husband William Lomax and her daughter Angelicia.
A memorial service will be held at 12 pm on Thursday, November 3 at Wall's Temple AME Zion Church, 27 Delaware St., Albany, NY 12202. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
