Sheldon Schutzman, 94, of Glastonbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025. He was born on May 1, 1931, in New York City to Dave and Rae Schutzman.
Sheldon grew up in the Bronx, living across the street from his beloved Crotona Park, which sparked a lifelong love of the outdoors and sports. His deep appreciation for nature continued throughout his life, especially in the garden he fondly referred to as his “Shangri-La.”
He was predeceased by his high school sweetheart and adoring wife of 65 years, Lois (née Liebman). A proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps, Sheldon was a veteran of the Korean War. A graduate of New York University, he went on to have a long and successful career in direct marketing, holding executive positions at various children's book publishers, including Parents Magazine Press in New York City and Field Publications in Middletown, Connecticut.
After leaving the Bronx, Sheldon raised his family in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, before settling in Glastonbury in 1977. He is survived by his two loving sons, Steven (Maggie) and David (Cynthia), and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his grandchildren Daniel, Brian, Max, and Deirdre. Sheldon was also predeceased by his brother, Gilbert.
A private service will be held in celebration of his life at a later date.
