Samuel P. Abate

Samuel P. Abate Sr., 89, passed away on May 30, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Samuel was born on Oct 31 1935 in Amantea, Cosenza, Calabria, Italy to late Michele and Theresa (Vadachino) Abate. He immigrated to the United States in 1956, and settled in North Albany. Samuel married the love of his life Mildred (Gulli) on May 06,1962. Sam was employed with the Albany County Sewage department. Prior to that, Sam was best know for his expert tailoring. He was also very involved in the supporting the democratic party in getting out the votes needed to better his community, and also an active member with his wife, Millie, with the Watervliet Elk's Lodge, where he enjoyed cooking with them and their Saturday night dinner dances. Sam loved to cook with his family, tend his garden and yard, and family vacations.

Samuel was predeceased by his wife, Mildred; and his son, Micheal.

He is survived by his children, Carmela, Mary, and Saverio Jr.; granchildren Aaron, and Conner, Cameron & Kyle and Samantha Fox . 

Sam was a good man always had a smile and a friendly word and always will to help. Sam will be immensely missed by his family, neighbors and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Road, Watervliet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Sacred Heart Church, 33 Walter Street, Albany. Interment to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
