Ruth J. Carter of Albany, passed on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at the age of 82, at Evergreen Commons Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. Born on May 27, 1935, in Hudson, NY to John P. and Sarah White.

A graduate of Hudson High School and NY Institute of Technology. A trained Laboratory Technician at the Albany Veterans Administration Hospital for several years and was Vice President of Carter Pest Control. A member of the MC Lawton Club, and dedicated parishioner of the Israel African Methodist Episcopal Church of Albany, and founding chair of the Empire State Black Arts and Cultural Festival. Ruth was an active member of the Historic Center Square Neighborhood Association and supporter of the arts and humanities in Albany.

Ruth was married to her loving husband Donald S. Carter Sr. and is survived by her beloved sons D. Spencer Carter Jr. and Marc A. Carter daughter-in-laws Wanda Carter and Lauren Carter; her grandchildren that she loved dearly and cared for Jade Carter, Adrienne Carter and Madison Carter. Her beloved siblings Marjorie Stamper, Frieda Clinkscale, (predeceased) Philip White, Joan Williams, George White, and David White, In-laws: William N. Carter II (Takako) and Julian G. Carter (Janet). Also numerous cherished nieces and nephews: Ronald (Cristina), Ginger and Pamela Williams; Kimberly Johnston Mcconnell (Gregory); Derrick Todd (deceased); Honorable William A. Carter (Joanne), Adam and Sarah Carter; Roberta Carter and James Carter (deceased); Cory Carter (Maria) and Beth Carter.

Relatives and friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday January 18th at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, where a service will follow at 6 p.m. that evening.
