ALBANY_Ruby O. Jones,94, of Albany, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2015 at home. Ruby was born on July 27, 1920, daughter of the Late Jesse and Lula (Whitfield) Jones in Sims, North Carolina.
Ruby served her country in 1943 in the 3564th Service Unit of the Woman's Army Auxiliary Corps Company. After she was discharged she went on to serve in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1945, as a Corporal. She was a Veteran of WWII. Ruby was awarded the Medal of Good Conduct and the Woman's Army Auxiliary Corps Service Medal. On November 23, 1945, Ruby was honored with the Army Air Force Certificate of Appreciation for War Service issued by the Commanding General. She always took great pride in her service to her country. As a nurse she was responsible for the first aid and treatment of many wounded soldiers. Ruby served as acting Sgt. Major in the station hospital. She was a supervisor of her ward and even trained others in nursing and laboratory work. She continued her commitment to caring for others both before and after her military service as a civilian working as a licensed practical nurse.
Ruby is survived by her niece, Ruby (James) Thompson-Carraway of Troy, great-niece , Fran (David Suggs) of Troy, nephew, Deacon Robert Frazier (the late Rev. Eloise Frazier) of Schenectady, her baby, Devan Quinson Suggs of Troy, her beloved caretaker, Tresha Ross of Albany and a host of grand nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Ruby will always be remembered by her favorite sayings, "God will take care of you if you're good to others" and "Pat your foot if you're happy". She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family,friend and many co-workers at Albany Medical Center, Albany Veterans Administration (Jennifer Gutchel, Valerie Smith, Loretta Ciralu), Eddy Day Break (Donna Hervieux, Suzanne Goldstein, Arlene Gifford), Nurse Corps (Angelina Hollenger), and the Center for Disability Services (Crystal Chiavelli, Katelyn Repecki)South Mall Towers (Kim Hansen, Chelsea Woods).
A funeral service for Ruby will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 12:00 noon at New Comer Funeral Home, Colonie, NY. Friends may call from 11:00 -12:00 on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Saratoga National Cemetery following a funeral service.
