Roger W. Mansbridge

Roger William Mansbridge, 86, passed away on September 17, 2026 at Hudson Park Nursing Home with his wife, Norma, and his son, Neil, by his side.

Born on August 8, 1940 during the Battle of Britain, in Newport, Isle of Wight, England, he was the son of the late William and Kay Mansbridge. When he was 14 he spent a year in Singapore, where his father was stationed. He found the one month journey by boat very boring but enjoyed 'scrumping’ pineapples once he arrived. He attended Strodes Grammar School & became an army apprentice at the age of 15, joining the regular army at 18, becoming a computer technician in the REME.

He and Norma met in 1961 on a blind date & married in 1963, prior to his posting to South Australia where he was attached to Woomera working with guided missiles. On their return from Australia Roger was posted to the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales where they spent three enjoyable years on that beautiful island.

After leaving the army in 1967 they moved to Poole, Dorset where Neil & Guy their two sons were born. Roger began a very successful career as a sales person, then manager with various office equipment companies. They had several moves in the U.K. due to his work and then in 1978 moved to Boston, MA for what was, initially, a two-year position. Somehow, along the way, the four of them forgot to move back to the U.K. They all loved Boston but, due to work, in 1984 they relocated to the Albany area.

He retired in 2005 from Ikon. For several years he enjoyed tending his vegetable garden until the wildlife got the better of him, and he gave up in disgust. He and Norma did some travelling enjoying Ireland, Alaska, Costa Rica and a Rhine River cruise as well as visiting family & friends in the U.K. In later life he enjoyed reading as well as watching golf, the Smithsonian, and History channels.

He was very proud of their two sons, Neil, who resides close by in Saratoga, and kept a loving eye on him, and Guy (Simona) who, with their two children, William & Julia, relocated to the U.K. in 2015. That part of the family is sorely missed as he & Norma often took care of the grandchildren & they kept him on his toes.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Diana.

Roger will be sadly missed by his family, Norma, his loving and patient wife of 63 years; his children,

Neil, Guy (Simona); grandchildren, William and Julia; his sister, Jane, who lives in France; his friends here and in the U.K.

Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with a sharing of memories to immediately follow, on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
