Robert “Bob” W. Yackel, 82, passed away on August 26, 2025.
Born September 6, 1942, he was the son of the late George F. Yackel, Jr. and Catherine Lucille Loiselle Yackel; and the beloved grandson to his much-loved grandparents; George F. Yackel, Sr./Carrie Hotaling Yackel and Beatrice Boudreau Loiselle Wonderford/Antoine Loiselle.
Bowling Bob the Big Bad Baker as he was affectionately called by family was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Bob was a hardworking, honest man of integrity who generously gave of himself to family and friends alike; his kind gentle soul knew no bounds as he helped strangers and bonded with animals both wild and domestic. His love and acceptance of others will be remembered forever.
Bob graduated from Columbia High School in East Greenbush, NY and spent the majority of his career at the Charles Freihofer Baking Company in the cake plant as both a mixer and later as a supervisor. During his tenure at Freihofer’s he graduated from the American Institute of Baking with honors. He was a true company man that loved his job and the letters of accommodation he received were testament to that passion. As his nickname implies, he was an avid and talented bowler, having bowled many years with the notorious Trojan Keglers during which he achieved several perfect 300 scores. That passion was passed down to his grandson Marcus and he never missed an opportunity to watch his grandson bowl in tournaments and on TV; supporting his grandchildren’s endeavors was always particularly important to him and Bob could always be found watching in the stands. A man of many interests and talents he took joy in his love of fishing and his unwavering support of the NY Yankees and NY Giants, and his time spent as a mason with the Grand Lodge of Albany.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Roseann Yackel; his sister, Dorothy Yackel Whittington; and canine companion Smokey.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Sherry F. Toedt (Mark); son, Anthony R. Yackel (Joanna); three grandchildren, Marcus Toedt, Isabella Yackel and Benjamin Yackel; and great grandson, Alexander Toedt.
