Robert F. Swanick, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday April 28, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
After living on 6th avenue for most of his childhood, Robert graduated from Lansingburgh High School in 1952. After high school, he attended college at SUNY Oswego and received his Bachelor's degree in education. He later received his Master's degree from SUNY Albany. Once receiving his Master's, he became a teacher and coach at Tamarac High School. This is where he met the love of his life, Joyce Cullen. There they started their life together, quite literally, the proposal happened in the parking lot and they joined in matrimony in 1959. He later went on to become principal at Tamarac and later principal at Lansingburgh before retiring in 1989. After retiring, he worked part time as an admissions counselor at Hudson Valley Community College until 2017.
In his free time, Bob could be found doing various outdoor activities. Some included skiing with his children or playing softball and golf. He could be found every morning at Duncan's in Brunswick where they referred to him as "Prof." Once weather started getting warmer, he enjoyed watching his Red Sox and vacationing in Maine.
He is survived by his children, Robert P. Swanick, Kathleen L. Swanick, and Carol S. Clickner. His grandchildren: Emily (Austen) Milam, Lily (Aaron) Swanick, and Jonathan Clickner. As well as his siblings, Lynn Koerner and Cheryl (Charles) Schermerhorn.
Robert was predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce. A loss both Bob and Joyce shared was the loss of their beloved daughter, Karen Swanick. He was also predeceased by his parents, Robert and Bernice as well as his brother Ronald. In addition, he was predeceased by two sons in law, Timothy Clickner and James Allen.
Calling hours for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. on May 9th at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd. Watervliet, NY 12189. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 10th at St. John the Episcopal Church, 146 1st St #154, Troy, NY 12180. Burial will immediately follow mass and will be at Eagle Mills Cemetery, 550 Garfield Rd, Troy, NY 12180.
