Robert E. De Forge

Colonie- Robert E. De Forge, 78, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 13,2016. He was the son of the late Gertrude and Earl De Forge. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Patricia D. De Forge.

Robert worked in the foundry for General Electric for over 30 years, having worked twenty-two years in the foundry and eight in Woods and Plastics. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He also owned his own garage door instillation and repair business for over 40 years. Robert served on the Town of Colonie Reserve Police where he was a patrolman, sergeant, lieutenant and then an investigator. He also served as a patrolman on the State Park Police stationed at Thatcher Park for numerous years. Robert was an avid hunter and hunter training instructor, as such, he was a member of the West Albany Rod and Gun club since 1957 where he was on the Board of Directors and Quarter-Master. He also was a member of the Turnpike Rod and Gun Club where he ran concession stand, wild life displays and archery at the Altamont Fair for two years. Robert was a member of the Elks Lodge #49 for over 40 years. He was also very active in the Rotterdam Elks Lodge where he co-chaired their capital district Elk Rally for two years. Robert was also an avid RV enthusiast having belonged to the Family Campers and R'vers (formally NCHA) since 1977. He held numerous positions during that time including, Chapter- Treasurer, Vice President and President, District- Secretary, Conservation Chairman, Treasurer, NY State Level- Conservation Chairman, Vice- President and President. In his later years Robert was an active member Tri-City Sam (Good Sam) and Captain of his bowling league. Robert was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Usher and volunteered whenever needed.

In addition to his wife Robert is survived by his three daughters, Wendy S. De Forge- Onderchain (Tony), Beth R. Sniffen (Ward) and Denise D. Lavaroni (Jim) of California. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Jordan, Rebecca, Lauren, Emily and James. Robert is also survived by his brother John D. De Forge of Colonie.

,Rensselaer, NY 12144 in Robert's memory.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at New Comer Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Most Holy Redeemer.
