Robert B. Connell, “Bob”, 64, passed away peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital on January 23, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes and heart disease.
Bob was born to the late Richard and Marlene Connell, who preceded him in death. His children, Isabella and Robert were his pride and joy. There was no better, or more loving father, husband, brother, brother-in-law, uncle or friend. His quiet, gentle kindness and sharp sense of humor will leave an immense void for those who knew him best. He was a die-hard Red Sox and Miami Dolphins fan, an avid gardener, a lover of music, a phenomenal cook, and he made the best Christmas cookies ever.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bob served honorably from 1979 to 1983, and received the Good Conduct Medal, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, the Air Force Training Ribbon and the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon. His commitment to service and discipline carried through to his civilian life and business.
Bob retired from New York State Retirement Systems (NYSLRS) with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed traveling around New York State in his capacity as an Info Representative for NYSLRS and took great pride in helping people make the best decisions for their long-term retirement goals.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Tina F. Connell and his children, Isabella and Robert, who were the light of his life, and the newest four-legged addition to the Connell household, Mia Connell. Bob is also survived by brothers Rick and John (Mary Ellen) Connell, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family.
Bob’s life was defined by fierce commitment to family, honesty, loyalty, independence, and quiet strength. He leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, unconditional love, good humor, good meals with family and friends, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
In addition to his parents, Bob is predeceased by his sister Kathy Sotanski, sister-in-law Denise Connell, aunts Cathy Connell, Carol Connell and Christine Rinaldo and his two Golden Retrievers Darby and Lucy.
The Connell Family would like to extend special thanks to his dedicated and wonderful health care team, especially Dr. Enzien, Dr. Ginsburg, Dr. Bellomo, Aleta’s team at the Heart Failure Clinic, Alli and Abbey from the Trinity Palliative Care team, Roxanne from Trinity health and in his final days, the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital - McAuley 2. The love and care that Bob received ensured comfort and dignity throughout his illness and in his final days.
