Colonie- Rita M. McAuliffe, 90, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2018 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born on May 22, 1927 in North Adams, MA, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Conrad. She was married to her loving husband, Paul J. McAuliffe in 1952. He predeceased her in 1987 after many wonderful years of marriage. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsfield, MA as a Registered Nurse. During her career that spanned more than 50 years, she worked in both pediatrics and geriatrics in the Albany area. In her time away from nursing, she enjoyed shopping, reading, walking the mall and her daily stop with friends at McDonald's on Osborne Road. Rita's greatest joy, however, was her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Rita is survived by her son, Paul C. McAuliffe; her daughters: Mary Anne (Bill) Kot and Stephanie (Charlie Torvinen) Zalot; her grandsons: Christopher (Melody) Kot and Paul Bianchi; her great-grandchildren: Lucas, Arabella, and Axel and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her nine siblings.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, February 22 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am on Friday, February 23 at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive, Albany. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Angels in Colonie.
