Rita A. Koronowski (Fenton) passed away gently on April 2, 2026, with her family around her. Rita was born in Oswego, NY on August 9, 1936, grew up in Rome NY, and raised her family in Marcy, NY.
After graduating from Rome Free Academy, Rita worked as a secretary at the former State Hospital in Marcy. After marrying her husband, Floyd, on July 2, 1957, they made their home in Marcy where Rita lovingly raised their six children. In the mid 1970s Rita returned to the workforce and eventually retired as a caseworker for the Oneida County DSS. In 2020, a year after her husband’s death, Rita moved to Schenectady to live with her daughter, Ann, then eventually to the Teresian House in Albany.
Rita was a lifelong swimmer, an avid bowler, and gave back to the community by volunteering for several years at the home for the elderly on the Marcy State Hospital campus. Later in life, Rita enhanced her natural artistic talents and began taking painting lessons. Rita loved to travel with her husband, enjoyed crossword puzzles and spoiled the many cats she adopted over the years. She was a formidable force during intense family card games and ping pong matches. Her beautiful smile, dimples, and red hair welcomed anyone into her home for a delicious meal or a strong cup of coffee.
Rita is predeceased by her husband Floyd, and two sons, Mark and Peter. She leaves behind a grieving family who loved her dearly: Mark’s wife, Donna Koronowski of NV, Paul (Donna) Koronowski of DE, Ann Koronowski of Schenectady, Joseph Koronowski of TX, and Dr. Edward Koronowski of MD. Rita also leaves behind three adoring granddaughters who will always have fond memories of their beloved “Nina” who would play any game, try any sport, or participate in any role they asked of her; Anastasia Allwine of Boiceville, who inherited Rita’s creativity and red hair; Alexandra Allwine of Elizaville, who inherited Rita’s quick wit and sense of humor; and Arianna Allwine of Castleton, who was one of Rita’s gentle caregivers, who inherited Rita’s kindness and compassion. Rita also leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as step grandchildren, whom she also loved dearly.
Our beautiful loving mother and grandmother will be missed, but we know that she is now at peace. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Rita’s name to the Alzheimer's Association: https://donorservices.alz.org
A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 2:00-5:00 at the home of Rita’s daughter, Ann. Another will be held on May 2, 2026 at the family home in Marcy.
