RICHARD CRAIG WRIGHT SR. East Berne —

Richard Craig Wright Sr., 87, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2026 Born in Albany on October 30, 1938, Richard was the son of the late Craig Wright and Mildred McDermott Wright. He was raised on the McDermott farm in Knox, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for hard work, self-reliance, and the outdoors. He attended Berne knox westerlo school and Bethlehem Central School District. In November 1955, Richard proudly enlisted in the United States Army and served his country honorably. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Inge. The couple married on October 23, 1960, and shared 65 years of devoted marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and commitment to one another.

Following his military service, Richard worked in construction before beginning a 20-year career as a railroad conductor. In 1981, he pursued his passion for fishing and the outdoors by opening Heldeberg Mountain Lures, operating the business from a shop beneath his home. Through his craftsmanship and dedication, he earned the respect of fellow sportsmen throughout the region. Richard was an avid hunter, trapper, fisherman, and outdoorsman who found his greatest peace in nature. He was also a passionate coin collector and took great pride in his beautifully restored 1947 Ford show car. He enjoyed attending car shows across the area, often returning home with first-place trophies.

Known for his many stories, strong work ethic, and fair-minded nature, Richard was well respected throughout the community. Though stern at times, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who was deeply devoted to those he loved.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Inge Wright; his sons, Richard Wright Jr. and Steven Wright; his brother, Gary Wright (Sandy); his brother, Robert Storm; his grandchildren, Candice Stempel, Fallon Wright (John), Alex Wright, and Rachel Wright; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Brendon Chrysler, Hailey Jackson, Ivy Stempel, Charlotte Gardnier, Addilynn Gardnier, and Daylynn Gardnier. He is also survived by his special friends, the Duell family of East Berne, and by his devoted caregivers, Diane, Elaine, and Susie, whose compassion and friendship brought comfort to both Richard and his family. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his grandfather Charles McDermott, grandmother, Ethel McDermott; his sisters, Caroline Fiacco and Ginger Pugliese; and his brothers, Charles Wright and Lawrence Storm. In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Those wishing to honor his memory may make donations in his name to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Richard's legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the values he instilled in those around him. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
