Richard K. Sturm, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30th, 2025 at his home.
Richard was a proud graduate of Christian Brothers Academy, class of 1968. After graduation, he worked his way through Siena college where he received his Bachelor's degree. During this time, he worked for Spector Clothiers. Immediately following his graduation at Siena, he started working for the Office of New York State Comptroller as an Audit Manager. He held his position with them till 2007 when he retired. He also owned a private practice called ARKAYS Tax Preparatory Services, and continued until his death.
In his free time, Richard was an avid golfer and was willing to travel anywhere for a good game. He was an active member of the Cohoes and Delmar Kiwanis Clubs. Within the club, he was a former Lieutenant Governor for NYS and Kiwanis International. He was instrumental in founding "Bells of Life" for Albany Medical Center for the Pediatric Trauma Unit.
Richard was predeceased by his parents Mary Ellen and Donald H. Sturm. He was also predeceased by his brother, Donald F. Sturm.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dianne of 39 years whom will miss him dearly. As well as his children, Kevin Sturm and Maggie Ellithorpe. His sister, Diane (Michael) Myers, his grandchildren, lan and Owen Ellithorpe and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Wednesday, June 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 181 Troy Schenectady Rd, Watervliet, NY 12189. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, at 11:00 am in St. Pius Church, 23 Crumitie Rd, Loudonville, NY 12211 with burial to immediately follow.
