Richard A. Johnston

Richard A. Johnston, 87, husband of the late Eleanor Johnston, passed away peacefully on Thursday,, September 24, 2026, at Shaker Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albany, New York.

Born on February 21, 1939, in Cohoes, NY, he was the son of the late Andrew Johnston and Irene Nash.

Mr. Johnston graduated from Cohoes High School and then went to work at Albany Frosted Foods. He then went on to purchase a restaurant in Cohoes called Del’s Tavern which later was renamed Richard’s. He moved to Florida in 1978 where he became a chef. After years of cooking he changed employment and worked as a deli manager at Publix Supermarket which is where he retired from. He was an absolutely wonderful cook and he had a great sense of humor and always had everyone around him laughing.

He is survived by his three children, Kim Tucker (Jessica) of Halfmoon, NY, Darci Kane of Waterford, NY and Mark Johnston of Melrose, NY., grandchildren Dan Linen, Ryan Tucker, Jared Kane, Cameron Johnston and Lanie Johnston as well as two great grandchildren Nicholas Linen and Arianna Linen. He was brother of the late Robert Johnston, the late Judy Beddow and Lucille Tyson. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
