Averill Park- Richard E. Johnson, 73, passed away with his loving family by his side on January 27, 2018 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. The son of the late Warren and Helen (Blanchard) Johnson, Richard was born on January 13, 1945 in Port Washington, Long Island. He moved to Loudonville with his family in 1960. He graduated from Shaker High School in 1963. Richard was married to Dawn E. Gettleman in 1982.
He worked for 35 years for General Electric in Selkirk, NY, before retiring in 2002. Richard loved his retirement, enjoying many vacations with his wife to the Virgin Islands. The last four years were spent wintering in Palm Beach Florida. Richard loved all kinds of music, playing guitar,tennis, running, kayaking, the beach, nature, especially feeding and watching birds from his deck overlooking the stream. He just simply enjoyed all of the little things in life!
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Dawn Johnson; his children: Cindy (Larry)Pitts of Averill Park, Gregg (Kathleen) Johnson of Hampden, Maine, Aimee Mazzola of Colonie; his six grandchildren; his sister, Bobby Ferguson of Maine; his father-in-law, Sidney Gettleman of East Greenbush; He will be sorely missed by his puppy girl, Shelby, who he loved with all his heart.
In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister Jean Schwamb and his brother, Warren Johnson.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm on Saturday, February, 3 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 12 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.
