Richard Hoogkamp

December 28, 1923 — September 30, 2016

Colonie- Richard Hoogkamp, 92, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 30, 2016 at his home. The son of the late Marinus and Anna (Roehr) Hoogkamp, Richard was born on December 28, 1923 in Albany, NY. A member of our Nation's Greatest Generation, Richard served his country in the US Navy during World War II. He served aboard the USS Boise as a gunner's mate. Upon returning from the service, he married Elaine Foley on March 17, 1946. Richard worked for over 30 years for Tobin's First Prize in Albany.
Richard had a great love for his family, he lived for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and biking. Being proud of his military service, Richard held a special place in his heart for all things service related. One of his favorite memories was a family trip to Washington D.C. to see the memorials. Richard was an active member of the Community Reformed Church of Colonie. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Elaine; his children: Richard W. (Marcia), daughter-in-law Karen Hoogkamp, Gail (Charlie) Lockwood, Faith Javers, William (Linda), Pamela Aldi and Lori (Karl) Cote; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; his siblings: William, Helen Warner, Faith Boel, Wesley, Daniel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, mother and father-in-law, Richard was predeceased by his beloved son Brian who he greatly missed, nine siblings and two sons-in-law.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Tuesday, October 4 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, October 5 at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Richard's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of the Stratton VA Medical Center, The Community Hospice, Rev. Bruce Cornwell and the Community Reformed Church of Colonie for their loving and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard's name to The Community Reformed Church of Colonie, 701 Sand Creek Rd, Colonie, NY 12205 or the American Legion Riders Post 977, 988 Altamont Blvd., Altamont, NY 12009.
