Richard (“Dick”) L. Hicks, 83, husband of Nancy H. Hicks of Clifton Park, passed away peacefully at home on April 28, 2026.
Born on January 21, 1943, in Cortland, NY, he was the son of the late Harry and Geraldine Hicks. He attended high school in McGraw, NY, and later moved to Albany with his new wife, where he began working as a mechanic at L.B. Smith while starting their family.
He went on to build a 39-year career with Callanan Industries, rising through the ranks from a laborer to Assistant Vice President. While he worked tirelessly to support his family, his true passion was dirt track racing. He owned and operated HICO Fabrications, where he built and repaired dirt track race cars and their components, and created a gathering place for fellow racing enthusiasts.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; his son Michael (Eileen) of Canton, MA; his daughter Amy (Rich) of Poughquag, NY; and his son-in-law Jason of Los Angeles, CA. He also leaves behind the favorite people in life, his six cherished grandchildren: Michael (Caitlyn), Kathryn (Michael), Makenna, Grayson, Matthew, and James. He is also survived by his brother, Felix Hicks of San Diego, CA; sisters-in-law JoAnn Hicks of Fort Worth, TX, and Carol Harrington of Cincinnatus, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his youngest daughter, Heather and his brothers George, Paul (Jean), and Earl.
Dick will also be deeply missed by the wide community of race car drivers, crews, and enthusiasts who knew and admired him.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals.
As he was not one for flowers, in lieu of floral arrangements, his family suggests spending an evening at a dirt track or local raceway in his honor—supporting the passion that meant so much to him.
