Richard John (Dick) Chwazik, of Latham and formerly Woodgate, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on January 23, 2026.
Born in Utica, NY, in 1924, Richard was the son of the late Andrew and Stella Chwazik. He was a graduate of Syracuse University, earning a degree in Engineering. Prior to completing his degree, he proudly served in the United States Navy as an Electronic Technician aboard the USS Cabot in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He later served again during the Korean War at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
Richard enjoyed a successful career with General Electric in Utica, followed by many years as an Appraiser with the New York State Health Department.
Dick found great joy in the natural beauty of the Adirondacks, especially at the family cottage on White Lake.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Gloria Chwazik, and by his daughter-in-law, Theresa Chwazik.
Richard is survived by his three children: Gayle (Jerry) Guzik of Winston-Salem, NC; Richard Chwazik Jr. of Latham, NY; and Peter Chwazik of Rochester, NY. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Dr. Amy Guzik (Chris Holmes) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Adam Guzik, Esq. (Xaymara Rosado) of Brooklyn, NY; as well as two great-grandchildren, Miles Holmes and Roman Guzik.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s honor to Community Hospice. Their loving care, dedication, and respect for Dick and his family made it possible for him to pass peacefully at home.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
