Richard Dominic Cioppa, beloved husband, father, grandfather and man of faith, passed away peacefully at home on January 21, 2026, at the age of 77, due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was born on June 30, 1948, the only child of Edith and Dominic Cioppa.
Rick was raised in the Catholic faith and lived a life deeply rooted in service to God and others. He served as an altar boy in his youth and later became a deacon and chaplain, roles he carried with great devotion. He was educated at Saint Ann's Academy and graduated from Cardinal McCloskey High School in 1966. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Army Reserves and studied X-ray technology.
Rick dedicated nearly 40 years to the State of New York, working in several capacities including technology specialist, architectural assistant and EAP coordinator. His professionalism, compassion, and commitment to helping others left a long lasting impact on those he worked with.
Rick was predeceased by his first wife Louise, with whom he shared over 30 years of marriage. Together they raised two sons, Michael and Stephen (Brittany), and were blessed with a granddaughter, Valencia. On January 7, 2003, Rick married Kathy, his loving wife, with whom he shared the remainder of his life.
An only child, who lost his mother early in life, Rick was lovingly cared for by his maiden aunt Mary Fragomeni, who became like a mother to him. His first cousins became like siblings, forming lifelong bonds.Gregarious by nature, Rick had a rare gift for conversation with just about everyone. He was loyal, warm, kind and truly loved God, his church, and his family.
Rick also had a passion for photography and was rarely without his camera, especially during outings and vacations. He enjoyed creating slideshows to entertain family and friends, leaving countless memories captured through his lens.
Rick leaves behind his devoted wife Kathy; his loving sons, Michael and Stephen; daughter in law Brittany, granddaughter Valencia; his first cousins Michele, Phillip (Janie), Thomas (Cindie), Donna, and Diane(David); brother in law Edwin; mother in law Jean; and many extended family members and friends who will mourn his passing and cherish his memory.
A public visitation will take place on Friday, January 30, 2026 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, New York 12205 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at City view Church 133 Mohawk Ave, Scotia, ny 12302 at 11:00am.
