Richard D. Bloomer, 83, husband of 55 years to the late Mary Ann Bloomer, passed away January 21, 2026 at Ellis Hospital.
Richard was born October 3, 1942 in Niskayuna, New York. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Margaret Bloomer.
Richard was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and worked various jobs before beginning his 34-year career with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier, and was honored with the National Safety Committee Award in recognition of his dedication and service.
He later continued working at Via Port Mall, where he was employed at the carousel and in customer service. One of the great highlights of Richard’s life was his 50-year membership in the Independent Order of Oddfellows. During that time, he attained the rank of Grand Master of the State of New York and was deeply honored to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Richard enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a devoted member of the Rotterdam United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Theresa and her husband, Michael Vandenburgh, of Guilderland; his son ,Stephen and his wife Beth, of Tallahassee Florida; three grandchildren Alexandra, of Guilderland, and Paul and Philip, of Bogota Columbia
Calling Hours will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with a funeral ceremony to immediately follow at 12 p.m., at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Interment to follow at Park View Cemetery, Schenectady.
