Richard Michael Bishop, 62, of Hannacroix, New York, passed away peacefully at home on October 31, 2026, at 12:23 a.m., following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Albany, New York, Richard lived a life defined by dedication, hard work, family, and a passion for the things he loved. Though his battle with cancer has come to an end, the memories he created and the lives he touched will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Richard dedicated 30 years of his professional life to the New York State Department of Education, where he served as a Supervisor. His years of service reflected the commitment and strong work ethic he carried throughout his life.
Outside of work, Richard had a true passion for bass fishing. An avid tournament bass fisherman, he was a longtime member of the Albany Area Bass Masters, where he spent many years competing, enjoying the sport, and sharing his love of fishing with fellow anglers. The time spent on the water and the friendships made along the way were an important part of his life.
Above all, Richard leaves behind a family who loved him dearly. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beth Kissel; his two sons, Ricky Bishop and Sean Guynup; and his four cherished grandchildren, Sullivan, Maverick, Savannah, and Colin. He is also survived by his brother and sisters, Sean McGinn, Denise Bishop, Cheryl Knott, and Brenda Auerbach.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, Ina Morse and Richard G. Bishop, as well as his beloved dog, Emma-do, who held a special place in his heart.
Richard's passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his family and friends. His dedication to his career, love of tournament fishing, and the memories he shared with those closest to him will never be forgotten.
Though pancreatic cancer may have taken him from this world, it can never take away the love, memories, and legacy he leaves behind.
A celebration of Richard's life will be planned for a later date. Details will be shared with family and friends as they become available.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Rest peacefully, Richard. May the waters always be calm, the fish always be biting, and your memory live on in the hearts of everyone who loved you.
