ALBANY-Retha Albert, a very dear wife, mother and grandmother went home to be with the Lord peacefully on Friday, April 24, 2015 with her daughter at her side.
Retha is survived by her loving daughter Marllyn Albert, her grandchildren Scott VanWinkle, James Jones, Christopher Jones, Theresa (Jones) Labreck and several nieces and nephews.
Retha was predeceased by her husband Frank Albert, her son Gerald Albert and her daughter Cheryl (Albert) Kaczkowski.
Retha retired from New York State Dept. of Tax and Finance and the Dept. of Labor. She loved working in her flower, vegetable, and herb gardens. She hand-crafted many beautiful embroidered keepsakes, was an excellent seamstress, great cook and very "famous" for her delicious homemade pumpkin and apple pies.
Thank you to everyone who lovingly cared for Retha at home and at Daughters of Sarah. A special thank you to Retha's grandson, Scott, for faithfully and tenderly helping his grandmother for the past 4 1/2 years.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at New Comer Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, conducted by Pastor Joe Roof of Calvary Baptist Church, Colonie, NY.
Interment will be at Memory Gardens, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Retha's name to Daughters of Sarah Foundation, 180 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany, NY 12203.
