Regina Famah Tumentoh (née Tumetoh) affectionately known to all as "Mami Regi," passed away peacefully on Monday, September 08, 2025, at St Peter’s Hospital, Albany, New York after a brief illness.

Mami Regi was born on January 01, 1949, in Tiko, Cameroon, where her father was working for the Cameroons Development Corporation, after his demobilization from the British Army that had fought the Japanese in Burma. However, they soon returned to Bambui after her father became ill. It was in Bambui that Mami Regi started her primary education.

On November 25, 1965, Pa Pius Tumentoh and Mami Regina tied the knot in Bambui in holy matrimony. Of this union nine children were born – seven girls and two boys. However, one of the boys passed away. They later adopted another boy.The Tumentohs’ were a family on the move, accompanying the father as he was posted to Kumba, Santa, Nkambe and Kumbo, major towns in West Cameroon. They finally returned to Bambui in 1993 after Pa Tumentoh retired from the Public Service.

Endowed with a keen business sense Mami Regi, in addition to mending the home and overseeing the children’s education, used her tremendous culinary skills in running catering, seamstressing activities, and traded in clothing materials (wrapper/Ankara). The latter often took her to Douala, Nigeria and Benin Republic for supplies.

Mami Regi’s family was most important to her, especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she loved to the moon and back.Mami Regi was known for her kindness and spirit of sharing even with strangers. Her knack for protecting the underprivileged and vulnerable was generally admired. Her frank talk and readiness to tell anybody what she thought of their actions was well known.

She was very active in community and church activities. She served as President of local Catholic Women’s Association (CWA) and social clubs.

Mami Regi always enjoyed outings with her large circles of friends from her childhood associations. She made friends for life and kept in contact with them wherever she went.

Mami Regina is survived by her husband Pius of 60 years, 9 children, 19 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nephews and nieces and in-laws.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Peter’s Hospital, Albany and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York for the excellent, compassionate care and support she received during her stay there.
