Rebecca Lindsey Mctygue, affectionately known as Becca and Boo, passed away on June 15, 2026, at the age of 26. She was a beautiful, creative, and compassionate soul who loved deeply and was cherished by all who knew her. Although she resided in Ballston Spa, she considered both Ballston Spa and Niskayuna to be home.
Rebecca was born on March 16, 2000, completing her family. She spent much of her childhood in Ballston Spa before moving to Niskayuna during her pre-teen years. She had a deep love for her family and friends, treasured collecting trinkets, enjoyed spending time outdoors, and was passionate about cheerleading. Rebecca faced numerous physical and mental health challenges throughout her life, yet persevered and proudly graduated from Niskayuna High School in 2018.
Rebecca had a passion for beauty and creativity, particularly in hair, makeup, and skincare, and she dreamed of building a career in the cosmetology industry. More recently, she had expressed a desire to become a counselor, helping children and young adults navigate trauma and addiction.
Those closest to Rebecca knew the many hardships she endured in recent years. She struggled with mental health challenges, a traumatic brain injury, addiction, and profound personal loss. She was predeceased by her father, Richard Mctygue, who passed away unexpectedly in 2019; her best friend, Ashley Duncan, in 2023; and her beloved soul cat, Rupert. Despite the many difficulties and losses she experienced during her short life, Rebecca remained resilient, compassionate, and unwavering in her capacity to love others.
Rebecca is survived by her loving mother, Heather McTygue; her brother, Jon VandePas; her sister, Tori VandePas; her sister-in-law, Kirsten VandePas; her cherished nephews, Finn and Wade; and many other beloved family members and dear friends whose lives she touched.
Services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home in Colonie, NY. A celebration of Rebecca's life will be held at a later date.
Flowers are welcome; however, the family also asks that donations be made to one of the causes that Rebecca held close to her heart.
