Philip James Marra, MD
Philip James Marra, MD, of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2026, at the age of 76.
Born in Schenectady on July 25, 1950, to Dr. Philip J. Marra, DDS and Mrs. Dorothy B. Marra, Phil dedicated his life to the practice of medicine and to his family. He attended Alfred University and Saint Louis University for his undergraduate studies and earned his medical degree at The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) School of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency at the University of Rochester. He returned to his hometown of Schenectady, where he practiced as a Board-Certified Neurosurgeon for 35 years.
Phil was a longtime member of the Mohawk Golf Club and the West Albany Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, woodworking, and flying. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and his lifelong friends.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; his children, Beth Grové (Christiaan), Philip Marra, and Kathleen Marra; and his stepdaughter, Kristel Sidlauskas (Brian). He was a loving grandfather to Riley, Edison, and Benedict Grové, and step-grandfather to Susan and Reed Sidlauskas. He is also survived by his sister, Marlene Omlor, and his brother, Steven Marra, along with his nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Jennifer Marra.
In accordance with his wishes, a private memorial service will be held for family and friends. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave, Scotia,NY 12302 in honor of his beloved late dog, Bernard.
