Peter Mason Holmes

SCHENECTADY- Peter Mason Holmes, aged 76, died unexpectedly on May 12, 2026.

Peter was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the middle son of the late Donald and Jane Holmes. The family moved to Duanesburg, NY when he was a small child and spent the rest of their time in upstate New York. Peter was a graduate of Duanesburg High School, class of 1967.

He is survived by his beloved daughter Marieke LeMonds (Dan), his brother David (Cynthia) Holmes and his two adored granddaughters, Molly and Olivia LeMonds. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. His brother Donald “Tuck” (Lee) Holmes and his nephew Mason Holmes predeceased him.

He was a man of many talents. He spent his career as a programmer at Stochos, the family computer software business, but his heart belonged to his passions, music and theater. He played in several local community bands, most notably the Esperance band where he was band leader for many years. He and his father enjoyed playing music together, primarily French horn, trumpet and sousaphone.

He loved Broadway musicals. He volunteered at the Schenectady Light Opera Company, both on stage and behind the scenes, for years. He was a talented performer and an excellent crew member. Peter enjoyed attending Broadway shows with his daughter, both in New York City and at Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady. Peter loved motorcycles as well. Many a weekend was spent touring the countryside on his Bultaco or Triumph.

Peter was a good, caring friend to all. He always had something nice to say about everyone. He was a man who found joy in the simple things: a good steak, warm sunlight, the open road. He will be missed by many.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 4 to 6 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205.
