Colonie- Paul E. Hanifin, 88, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2017 at The Grand in Guilderland. The son of the late Leo and Mildred (Hill) Hanifin, Paul was born on July 18, 1928 in Schenectady. He attended Roessleville High School, he then served his country in the US Navy Reserves. Paul married his high school sweetheart, Marion Powell. Paul was a proud member of the Ironworkers Local 12 Union and worked with his father for many years. He later went on to work for Albany Ladder Co., which he retired from in 1990. An avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing and after his retirement playing golf. Along with his wife, Paul enjoyed travelling and spending winters in Marco Island, Florida. Paul always had many hobbies, including beekeeping, woodworking and sailing.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, Paul will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Marion Hanifin; his children: Daniel Hanifin, Cathleen (Robert) Matuzak, Timothy (Valerie) Hanifin; his grandchildren: Rebecca (Steven) Spalten, Clinton "CJ"(Juliana) Hanifin, Stephen Matuzak, Cathleen Matuzak, Mark Hanifin and Rachael Hanifin; his great-grandchildren: Ryan and Ethan Spalten; his siblings: Patricia Meyer and Dr. J. Hanifin; his daughter-in-law Linda Hanifin and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will also be missed by his beloved dog, Zip.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his son Brian Hanifin and his sister Jane Vickery.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, January 23 at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, January 24 at the Earl Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Troy.
