Paul A. Candelaria, age 79 passed away at home on April 1, 2016. Born May 13, 1936 in Mayagues, Puerto Rico. Paul was the son of Francisco Javier Candelaria and Laura Rivera. In addition to his parents, Paul is predeceased by his brothers Eddie Candelaria and Hilton Simon Rivera. He moved to the United States at the age of 10 years old and graduated high school and continued his education at RCA Institute of Technology in New York City. His main employment for over 30 years was at New Hermes as an Engraver. He retired from Elite Signs as an Engraver at the age of 62 years old and moved to Coxsackie, NY to be closer to his family.
Paul was an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan. He was an adept handyman and tinkerer; he invented many handy gadgets over the years. He was a joyous individual who loved cracking jokes. He was loved by all that knew him. On any given day you could find him singing and playing his guitar in the company of his cockatiels, Ricky and Ticky, or tending to his rose bushes.
He is survived by his only daughter Ines (Michael) Bland, his grandchildren Paul (Meghan) Mallory, Monica Mallory, Jennifer Candelaria and Jeremiah Reyes; great grandchildren Ayanna and Jada Jackson; nephew and nieces David (Yolanda) Candelaria; Michael (Delailah) Candelaria; Iris (Greg) Hotakov; goddaughter Miriam (Pete) Estevez and Nicole Estevez and further survived by other relatives and friends.
The viewing will be held on April 4th from 11-1pm and the service will be 1-2pm and food to follow for family and friends at Bethel AME Church 123 Mansion Street, Coxsackie, NY 12051.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
