Patricia L. Martin Niebuhr passed away on October 27, 2026. Born in Chicago on December 6, 1934, she was the eldest daughter of Doris Fulmer and William Martin. She was predeceased by brothers Kenneth and William. She is survived by sisters Colleen and Sharon.
Pat met Kenneth while in high school. They were married early in their college years and had a long wonderful and special life together. She worked at the University of Wisconsin until 1957 when their first child was born.
As time went on, they became parents of three beautiful children, Sheryl (Steven Bernhard), Liesa (the late Stephen Kelley) and Jay (Jessica DiFrisco). They were also proud grandparents of Jessica, Matthew, Sarah, Bennett, Grace and Michael. In addition, eight great-grandchildren joined the family. She will be remembered by her beautiful smile and sweet laughter whenever she was surrounded by family.
During her early years of marriage, she taught Sunday school, became a Girl Scout leader, and served in the community wherever she could. In the 1970s, she returned to work to become a sales manager for Country Epicure, a bakery specializing in European cakes and pastries. She enjoyed and excelled in gourmet food and its preparation. She was an excellent baker, especially noteworthy were her apple and rhubarb pies and the Martin chocolate cake.
In 1991, she and Ken had a retirement home built on a small lake in Grafton, New York. Taconic Lake became their home for 30 years. Ken was her soulmate and their love for the outdoors brought them many years of happiness. Through the years, their life revolved around swimming, sailing, hiking, camping, waterskiing, long walks, and canoeing at sunset. Pat loved flowers in her home as well as in the garden.
She was a very sociable lady and made many wonderful friends during her life. A special memory was the bridge group from Yorktown Heights, New York, days. In Grafton, she was active in the Taconic Valley Garden Club, Grafton United Methodist Church and Grafton Historical Society. In 2010, she became the Town Historian for the Town of Grafton. She always found time for a good book and was a longtime member of her local book club.
Late in 2021, they moved to Shaker Pointe in Watervliet, New York, a senior community.
A private service for immediate family members will be held in her memory. Those wishing to honor her may send a contribution to the United Methodist Church at Berlin (P.O. Box 225, Berlin, NY 12022) or to the Grafton Historical Society (P.O. Box 244, Grafton, NY 12082).
