Padraic Hegan, 61, lived an incredible life marked by compassion, creativity, humor, and deep love for his family and friends. On January 3, 2025, with his wife, Chelly, daughter, Nora, and sister, Katie by his side, Padraic lost his two-year battle with lymphoma.
Padraic was born in Kensington, UK, in 1964, to Mervyn Hegan and Eleanor "Cecie" Hegan, nee Brooks. Padraic, along with his parents and sister, emigrated from Northern Ireland to escape "the Troubles," landing in Troy, New York.
After graduating from Troy High School, Padraic went on to study at Hudson Valley Community College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earning a degree from the RPI School of Architecture. Padraic worked with his family at B&H Fabrications, then Architecture +, Sadowski Architects, Envision Architecture, and his own design firm, Hegan Ironworks.
It was in Troy, a city which he adored, where Padraic met the love of his life, Michelle "Chelly" Hegan, nee Rock. They married on June 3, 1994, in Newport, Rhode Island. With their magnificent and beloved daughter, Eleanor "Nora" (Rock) Hegan, they settled in their beautiful Victorian house in Troy. Their home was a constant buzz of activities - renovations, music, laughter, food, wine, friends, and joy- it was a place where all felt instantly welcomed.
While we are overwhelmed with sadness that Padraic, a brilliant and kind man, is gone, we find tremendous comfort knowing that he had a life filled with and surrounded by - true love.
Padraic will be forever missed by his wife of 32 years, Chelly; daughter, Nora; sister, Katie (Greg) Brown; niece, Emma (Chris) Brown; nephew, Connor (Clarice) Brown; and nieces Clara Tully and Lydia Tully.
Funeral services will be private.
