Oren "Jake" Bates II

Knox- Oren “Jake” Bates, 71, passed away on May 14, 2025. Born on March 17, 1954, he was the cherished son of the late Sonny and Joyce Bates.

Jake was a true outdoorsman at heart. He enjoyed nature, especially while hunting and fishing along the Ausable River in the Adirondacks. He loved camping with family and friends, playing horseshoes, snowmobiling, and spending time outdoors cutting and splitting wood.

He was predeceased by his sister, Robin Dunnells.

Jake leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Robin Bates; his loving children, Christa (Michael) Taylor and Justin (Molly) Bates; and his treasured grandchildren, Emily (Kelly) Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Abigail Taylor, Eric Bates, and Andy Bates. He is also survived by his brother, Orvil (Debbie) Bates, his faithful dog Sadie, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss him dearly.

In keeping with Jake’s wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in his honor.
