With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Norris Orville Wilson, age 67, who left us on June 28, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family in the comfort of his home. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose life will forever be remembered for the love, faith, and wisdom he shared with all who knew him.
Born on July 22, 1958, in Kingston, Jamaica, Norris was the eldest of seven children to the late Neville and Vivienne Wilson. He was the loving husband of Vera Imperiale Wilson and is survived by his siblings: Claudine Lane (Wilson), Dustan (Peter) Wilson, Chester (Devon) Wilson, Shelly Ann Gray (Shaw), and Janice Wilson. He was a father to Norville Wilson, a stepfather to three children, and a grandfather to six grandchildren, all of whom he adored. His life was filled with the love of nieces, nephews, and in-laws, and his family was a cornerstone of his strength.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Denise Damon (Wilson), and his parents, Neville and Vivienne Wilson.
Norris's journey in life was guided by an unwavering commitment to family, faith, and service. A graduate of Calabar High School in Kingston, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of the West Indies and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. His professional career spanned banking, insurance, and manufacturing, with a deep focus on accounting and auditing. He was known for his sharp mind and dedication to excellence in every role he took on.
In 1997, Norris moved to Canada, where he quickly became a respected auditor. A year later, he relocated to the United States, living in Ohio, Atlanta, New Jersey, and the Bronx, before settling in Albany, New York for the last 18 years. Through all his travels, Norris's love for his family and his Jamaican roots never wavered. He found strength and solace in his cultural heritage, especially through music and soccer, which were his lifelong passions. His love for his homeland and its vibrant spirit was an essential part of who he was.
But it was Norris's faith that truly defined his legacy. From an early age, he was committed to his Christian beliefs, and over the years, his relationship with God grew deeper and more profound. He became an anointed Christian, and his faith was the cornerstone of his life. Norris's service to others was an extension of his faith—he led the Healing Ministry at Glory House of Prayer and was ordained at Lord House of Deliverance Baptist Church in 2020. As a leader in the Celebrate Recovery Ministry for the last five years, Norris demonstrated incredible strength in overcoming personal struggles with addiction, using his experience to help others on their healing journeys.
Norris's unwavering belief in the power of prayer and divine intervention became a source of inspiration for everyone who knew him. Even as he faced health challenges diabetes, prostate cancer, chronic kidney disease, and heart failure, he maintained an extraordinary sense of peace and strength. His ability to manage his struggles with grace was a testament to his deep trust in God's plan for him. Norris often shared with others that "faith is not just believing in God; it's trusting that He has your back, no matter what."
Beyond his faith, Norris was deeply dedicated to personal growth. His holistic approach to life blended spiritual practice with mindfulness. He embraced meditation and energy work as part of his journey toward self-discovery, and this helped him achieve balance and inner peace. He encouraged everyone around him to explore their own spiritual practices, whether it was through prayer, meditation, or simply being present. He believed that by stripping away the ego, we could access our true potential and live more fully in the moment.
He often said, "One Love "a reminder to all of us to live with unity, compassion, and kindness. He taught us that true strength lies in vulnerability and that we are all capable of soaring when we embrace love and compassion for ourselves and others. His radiant smile, his gentle spirit, and his loving heart will be forever etched in our memories.
A viewing will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
