Nancy J. O’Brien, 78, passed away at home on September 12, 2026, embraced by the warmth and comfort of the life she so lovingly built.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Nancy grew up in Stratford before her heart led her to her beloved, Edward “Eddie” O’Brien. Shortly after they married, Nancy and Eddie moved to Albany, New York, eventually settling in Watervliet, where they purchased their home and created a lifetime of memories. In a poignant reflection of their deep bond, Eddie later joined his beloved wife in eternal rest.

Nancy was a graduate of Bunnell High School and the Electronic Programming Institute. Throughout her over 40-year career, she brought dedication and care to various administrative assistant roles, which began in the billing department of the Remington Arms company and concluded with a 20-year service award upon her retirement from Safelite auto glass. Never one to stay still for long, she spent her retirement years sharing her bright smile and kind nature as a part-time cashier at the Latham Walmart.

Nancy found quiet joy in the simple rhythms of life—cooking delicious meals for those she cared about, solving crosswords and piecing together puzzles. She always looked forward to meeting her sister-law Jean to press her luck for a day of bingo and slot machine casino fun. Nancy loved the beach and her annual trip to Hampton Beach to soak up the sun, salt air and seafood. While she enjoyed many great adventures over her lifetime, it was her honeymoon trip to Bermuda that held a host of cherished memories, which she enjoyed recalling and sharing.

Above all, Nancy showed love through thoughtfulness and detail. She never missed a birthday or anniversary, ensuring everyone in her life felt remembered and valued. Her gifts were legendary--- impeccably wrapped with care, each one a deeply meaningful reflection of her love for the recipient. Nancy’s gentle heart extended to her many furry companions over the years, most notably her loyal German Shepard, King, and sweet black cat, Sheeba, who each held a forever place in her soul.

Nancy was predeceased by her father, Clifford B. Green, mother Mary W. (Rosenthal) Green.

Her memory will be held dear by her stepchildren, Paula J. O’Brien-Soler (Marco), Edward O’Brien, Jr. (Olivia), Nina Krupian and Jenean Krupian, and her grandchildren, Colin Soler, Mallory O’Brien and Edward O’Brien III.

Nancy is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Eugenia Graves and Patricia (Anthony) De Trafford along with many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Nancy’s life on Friday, October 9, 2026, at St. Francis Assisi Church at 391 Delaware Avenue, Albany, NY 12209. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00am, concluding with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Interment will follow at Albany Rural Cemetery.
